Jharna Kala: meditation art by Sri Chinmoy

Updated
40 years ago Sri Chinmoy created this rose drawing in a hotel room in Ottawa in Canada, which began his art journey.

Jharna-Kala is the Bengali name Sri Chinmoy chose for his artwork. The English translation is “Fountain Art” – which signifies art flowing from the source of creation, flowing from the inspiration he receives in meditation.

In 1991, he began a series of bird drawings that he called Soul Birds. These numbered 16 million by the time of his passing.
